Subject: Urgent Call for Genuine Action and Accountability in the Amhara Crisis

FANA Advocacy

12/5/2025

FANA - The Federation of Amharas in North America releases this urgent call with utmost urgency and moral conviction to demand that the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) and the African Union (AU) immediately halt all fake mediation efforts that fail to address the ongoing genocide and war crimes perpetrated against the Amhara people in Ethiopia.

For years, the Amhara community has endured unspeakable atrocities: sexual violence against women and girls, drone and air strikes targeting civilians, mass detentions in concentration-style camps, and the forced displacement of millions. These crimes are

not isolated incidents—they are systematic, widespread, and have been documented by humanitarian monitors and survivor testimonies. Yet, instead of championing justice, IGAD and AU have chosen to legitimize a government complicit in these crimes, thereby emboldening perpetrators and deepening the suffering of survivors.

We are appalled that respected Amhara citizens—medical doctors, professors, lawyers, journalists, parliamentarians, and human rights defenders—remain imprisoned on fabricated charges, denied fair trial and due process. Their continued detention is a stain on the conscience of Africa and a direct violation of the principles IGAD and AU claim to uphold.

We Demand:

1. Immediate establishment of an independent international investigation into all allegations of war crimes, genocide, sexual violence, drone attacks, mass detentions, and forced displacement targeting the Amhara people.

2. Transparent and public reporting on the Ethiopian government’s role in enabling armed groups and orchestrating attacks on civilians.

3. Unrestricted humanitarian access to all displaced and detained Amharas, ensuring aid reaches those in desperate need.

4. Protection and amplification of survivor voices in all mediation processes, with a guarantee that resistance movements are not silenced or divided.

5. Immediate visitation and advocacy for the release of all Amhara prisoners and human rights advocates. of conscience, including medical professionals, academics, journalists, Mediation that ignores genocide, sexual violence, war crimes, Crimes against humanity, and the silencing of voices of conscience is not only illegitimate—it is complicit. We call on IGAD and AU to realign their actions with international human rights standards and to stand on the side of justice, and truth.

The world is watching. History will remember those who chose courage over complicity.
