Federation of Amharas in North America (FANA) is a registered non profit in the United States. It was founded in 2021 by Amhara organizations in the United States to create a united platform where organized Amharas can utilize their united potential to advocate for and advance the interests of Amharas. FANA’s administration and operation is done by representatives elected and sent from 17 (and counting) member organizations.
Our Mission
At FANA, we are committed to addressing the critical challenges facing the Amhara people through comprehensive and dedicated efforts:
- Protecting Amhara from Genocide: Our foremost priority is to prevent and mitigate the threat of genocide against the Amhara people. We advocate vigorously for their safety and well-being, striving to shield them from systematic destruction.
- Documentation and Advocacy: We meticulously document instances of ethnic cleansing and genocide. By raising awareness and pushing for international recognition and action, we aim to ensure that these atrocities do not go unnoticed or unpunished.
- International Advocacy: We engage in concerted efforts to bring global attention to the genocide committed against the Amhara people. Our goal is to urge the international community to intervene and seek justice for the victims.
- Combating Mass Imprisonment: We expose and legally challenge unjust detentions. In collaboration with human rights organizations, we work to secure the release of wrongfully imprisoned individuals and to prevent future injustices.
- Humanitarian Support: Providing aid and support to displaced Amhara individuals is a cornerstone of our mission. We advocate for their rights and work towards their safe return and resettlement.
- Combating Planned Starvation: We advocate for food security and relief efforts to prevent hunger and famine among the Amhara community. Ensuring that the basic human needs of our people are met is fundamental to our mission.
- Promoting Social, Economic, and Human Rights: We champion the social, economic, and human rights of the Amhara people. By addressing discrimination, inequality, and human rights violations, we strive to create a more just and equitable society.
